Road to Revision 2025

Last year, a friend of mine attended Revision 2024 in Saarbrücken, Germany. I followed along online through the live stream as teams and individuals created incredible music and graphics. Some of the competitions are held live, and competitors take to the stage to create code-art in real-time. I was previously unaware of the Demo Scene, where people into live coding and creating art using lines of code can get together and create things in a festival-like atmosphere.

Revision 2025

I found out about Revision too late to be able to attend last year but this year I have plenty of time to prepare. There has been an announcement of the dates for the competition on the website. I will be purchasing a ticket when they are released.

Competitive Spirit

There is a certain amount of pressure (mostly from myself) to enter something into the competition and even perhaps take part in a live coding competition. With this in mind I’m starting to look into what I could potentially take part in. I’m creating this blog series (posts will start with “Road to Revision”) to share progress towards this lofty goal, as well as resources to help other people get started.

In particular I’d really like to try entering the live Shader Showdown - where competitors write in GL and create incredible moving artworks in 30 mins, all to an electronic music soundtrack with live DJs. However competion for spots in this is very fierce, and I have a long way to go before being anywhere near ready to enter something like this, but either way, I will be focussing on Shaders, but also taking a look at the other competitions as well.

Conclusion

I’m very excited to be attending Revision 2025 this year. I hope that some people who are also planning to be there see this - and reach out or otherwise make contact, even if it’s just at the event. I’m very open to meeting anyone going to this, and in particular anyone in the Luxembourg region that might be connected with a Demo Party group, as I think getting the most out of Revision will involve attending other Demo Partys.
